The Engineering Staff College was established in the year 1971 as a commemoration of the Silver Jubilee of the Karnataka Engineering Research Station with the aim of imparting training to the in-service Engineers as well as newly appointed Assistant Engineers and Junior Engineers of Public Works and Water Resources Departments in updating their knowledge to tackle the problems encountered in their respective fields. The EngineeringStaffCollege is working under the administrative control of Director, KERS.

The college is headed by Principal & Joint Director, of the rank of Superintending Engineer, who also functions as Joint Director of KERS. The Principal is supported by Professors (Executive Engineers) and Assistant Professors (Assistant Executive Engineers) and Lecturers (Assistant Engineers)and Junior Engineers.

A separate building for Engineering Staff College has been constructed by utilizing the grants allotted to KERS under the strengthening of Research Station.

The Engineering Staff Training College conducts following types of training programmes.

A) Institutional Training Programmes:

  • Orientation courses of duration six weeks for newly appointed Asst. Executive Engineers and four weeks for the newly recruited Asst. Engineers and Junior Engineers of the Department.
  • Refresher courses of 5-6 days duration for in-service Engineers in various Engineering subjects like, Quality Control & Instrumentation, Design construction & maintenance of roads, Canals, operation & maintenance of Reservoirs, Earthquake resistance structures maintenance of vehicles.
  • Basic Computer course (training duration 12 days) etc., Training on administrative subjects will also be conducted by the college.

B) Continuing Education Pprogramme Training:

Short term courses of 5 days duration under Continuing Education Programme (C.E.P) at selected 8 Engineering Colleges of State (i.e., Mysore, Hassan, Surathkal, Dharwad, Davangere, Belgaum, Bagalkot and Shimoga) with aim of imparting training in Engineering subjects to the Technical personnel of Public works & Water Resources Department who work in and around these centers.

Engineering Staff College is equipped with 2 classrooms, One Computer laboratory and other training equipment’s such as slide projector, overhead projector, LCD projector, Gauging equipment’s for demonstrations etc., The ESC is conducting nearly 30 Institutional courses and 24 CEP courses per year. In addition special courses are also being conducted on request of various State & Central Government agencies. The EngineeringStaffCollege is also equipped with a Hostel with Boarding & Lodging facilities to cater to about 100 trainees at a time.
